Every Saturday, Ema heats her stone oven to bake huge loafs of sourdough white bread that fermentate overnight. Some of the loaves are mixed with blacks olives, halloumi cheese and herbs. The fragrance overwhelms the street for hours! It is one of the most popular activities of agrotourism and ecotourism programs.
The Akdeniz Beach near Kormacit is one of the few spots in Northern Cyprus, where turtles (including Caretta-Caretta) lay their eggs between July and August. It is a fascinating show for nature and ecotourism lovers!
St. George is the patron of Kormacit village, so his name day is celebrated 2 days on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday evening there is a concert at the village square. Sunday is celebrated with a holy mass and folk dances.
Easter celebrations are very important for the village and start with a mass at Palm Sunday, a big bonfire on Saturday evening and a mass at Saturday Midnight. On Easter weekend Kormacit expects more than 2000 people, mostly from South Cyprus, to celebrate in the St. George Cathedral. On Easter Sundays or Mondays the Maronite archbishop from Nicosia is visiting the village.
