The history of the Maronites

St. Maroun, a 4th-century Syriac monk, founded the Maronite spiritual movement, later forming the Maronite Catholic Church. Living as a hermit near Antioch, his holiness and miracles attracted many followers. He emphasized a monastic, ascetic life, seeing the physical and spiritual worlds as deeply connected. His disciple, Abraham of Cyrrhus, spread Maroun’s teachings to Lebanon, converting many to Christianity. A devoted missionary, Maroun healed both physically and spiritually, even converting a pagan temple into a church. After his death in 410, his disciples continued his mission. His feast day is celebrated on February 9, honoring his enduring legacy. For further information: read the history of the Maronites by maronitefoundation.org
